On Tuesday 25 of September, the Edgar Centre was highly populated with key members of our netball community. The occasion was our annual prizegiving, celebrating excellence across our local competitions, representative campaigns, officials and special individual recognition.
Jono Bredin was the guest speaker for the night, a perfect way to culminate his umpiring career in front of his netball community. Jono was also presented with his Netball South Service Award Badge as well as the Netball South Colleen Bond Umpire of the Year Trophy.
Notably, the Technical Officials Trophy went to Christine Thomlinson, for her dedication to technical officiating and the high level she performs at.
In the umpiring realm, the SE Foster Platter went to Gracey Farquharson, an umpire in the National Umpire Squad who continues to give a large contribution at the community level.
Coaching wise, Contribution to Coaching went to Stefanie Keoghan, coaching two Macandrew teams, a representative team and a development team. The Contribution to Representative Netball went to Jodi Brown for her efforts and leadership of the U17A team.
For the special awards of the evening, celebrating individual excellence went to very fitting people.
Personality of the Year went to Rua Hagan for the character and passion she brings to Saturday netball, and how much she gives to her community of people who play for Eastern Club and East Otago High School.
Margaret Bruss (our Life Member and Patron) presented her trophy for Outstanding Leadership to Alice Wells. Alice led Physed A to their first Premier A title in 13 years and ended Southern Magpies incredible 7 year reign.
Margaret also presented the Kathy Stewart Trophy for Most Valuable Contribution to Dunedin Netball. This went to Jo Morrison. Jo masterminded our Development Programmes, and has an immense contribution in this space as well as our representative space.
Our representative coaches had tough decisions to make in regard to awarding a MVP and Best Team Contribution. Those who were awarded are listed below.
